Save Money in the Car

Lighten Your Load

Remove unneeded cargo from your car to get more miles per gallon of fuel. It has been estimated that an engine loses about 1 mile per gallon of fuel efficiency for every 250 additional pounds it must move. Places to look for excess load include the trunk, bed, cargo area, under the seats and elsewhere. In northern winters, don't forget that snow piled up on top of your car can add weight (and increase wind-drag too).

Remember too, that you are probably carrying a little extra weight in your body. That may be true for your entire family as well. So if each member of your family loses a few pounds as part of a healthier lifestyle, you'll also save at the pump.
