Avoid Long Warm-ups
Many people go out and start their cars to leave them running 5 to 10 minutes before they plan to leave home thinking they need to let the car "warm up." Unless your car has very specific needs, this is simply unnecessary; even on cold, winter mornings.
Newer cars need only about 30 seconds to reach a healthy operating temperature and run well. Older cars do need a bit more time, but only up to about 3 minutes at max. Warming up your engine more than necessary may make your winter commute a bit toastier, but it also wastes gas (and money).
