About the Name

Sure, Pinchtown.com is all about pinching pennies, but there's a bit more to the story. In modern-day Newaygo County, Michigan back in the mid-19th century, the lumber boom gave birth to a tiny town on the White River about a mile north of Aetna. That town was known as "Pinchtown" and was home to one of our ancestors who built a saw mill there in 1860. According to popular tradition, the town got its name because one of its shop-keepers was so stingy, that he would go so far as to pinch a cracker in half to balance his grocer's scale rather than give a customer more than they had paid for. Pinchtown.com honors his spirit of frugality, even though we're on the customer's side!
